The Road to Griswold

Decoding the history behind the landmark case that established a right to privacy

This week on the podcast, we’re talking about the evolving notion of privacy. A landmark U.S. Supreme Court case from 1965, Griswold vs. Connecticut, has had important ramifications for how we view the issue in the past 50 years and shaped our concept of the right to privacy.

Griswold served as the precedent for Roe v. Wade but the case has its own set of precedents. They’re a little too tangled to talk through on the podcast, so we created this timeline to help you walk through the history behind Griswold and how American courts have come to view privacy.

Special thanks to Dr. Keith Whittington of Princeton University for his help.
